The bachelor's degree in professional accounting is a four year program that consists of 120 credits and is available through accredited online colleges as well as traditional college campuses. The curriculum will revolve around accounting with classes like income tax accounting, financial accounting, various software programs, marketing, management, business law, income tax accounting and managerial accounting.

Although roughly 70 percent of the degree courses will relate to accounting, the remainder will fulfill the general education requirements of a bachelor's degree. These general education courses might include physics, chemistry, a foreign language or even English literature.

Prerequisites for the Degree Program

If you are interested in pursuing a degree in professional accounting at the bachelor's level, then you will need to meet a handful of specific requirements. Although the prerequisites will differ slightly from college to college, most will request that students are 18 or older at the time of enrollment, that they hold either a high school diploma or a general education degree, that they submit their high school transcripts and that they have the required ACT or SAT scores to meet the school's minimum.
